UK and Israeli PMs meet amid calls for accountability and justice

The meeting between UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was marked by controversy as pro-democracy Jewish groups in Britain called for Netanyahu to be held accountable for his actions.

Palestinian groups also protested the visit in central London, reflecting the deep fissures in Israeli society over judicial reforms that have led to 11 weeks of rallies.

Netanyahu is seeking to focus on the threat posed to world security by Iran’s nuclear program, but his government has been torn apart by splits over the reforms, causing major unease among some Arab diplomats.

Despite this, Netanyahu’s trip to London represents an opportunity for the two countries to discuss bilateral ties and global security challenges.
